Auch 300 Jahre nach der Geburt des Künstlers Pascha Weitsch, der den Harz auf Leinwand, Papier und Porzellan verewigte, hat das höchste Gebirge Norddeutschlands nicht an Bedeutung verloren – ist in seiner landschaftlichen Vielfalt inzwischen „instagrammable“. Insbesondere auf der audiovisuellen Plattform Instagram spiegelt sich die Begeisterung für die sagenumwobene Gebirgslandschaft mannigfaltig wider. Sie ist Teil des Phänomens einer neuen deutschen Landschaftsfotografie, welche nach Gründung des Fotografen- Kollektivs „German Roamers“ im Jahr 2015 ein neues Level erreichte: Die Outdoor- Fotografen entwickelten nicht nur eine neue digitale Bildsprache, sie demonstrierten auch wie vielfältig die Landschaften Deutschlands sind. Der Harz mit seinen ausgedehnten Wäldern, bizarren Felsen, jahrtausendealten Mooren und ursprünglichen Bachläufen entwickelte vor diesem Hintergrund sein Potenzial in den sozialen Medien. Als Ergebnis eines Foto-Wettbewerbs auf Instagram präsentiert die Ausstellung #WeitschReloaded – HARZ. FOTOGRAFIE. HEUTE den zeitgemäßen Blick naturbegeisterter Fotograf *innen auf den Harz im Wandel der Zeit.

Today, 300 years after the birth of Pascha Weitsch, who captured the Harz Mountains on canvas, porcelain and paper, northern Germany’s highest mountain range has lost none of its visual appeal – on the contrary, the rich diversity of its landscape has become highly instagrammable. The social media platform reflects the continuing enthusiasm for the fabled landscape of the Harz Mountains in a myriad of ways. This enthusiasm comes with a new brand of German landscape photography, which reached new heights after the formation of the photographer collective “German Roamers” in 2015. These outdoor photo- graphers have not only developed an innovative digital visual language, they also celebrate the diversity of Germany’s landscapes. It is against this backdrop that the Harz Mountains, with their vast forests, bizarre rock formations, ancient moors, and pristine streams, have reached their social-media potential. The result of a photo competition on Instagram, the exhibition #WeitschReloaded – HARZ. PHOTOGRAPHY. TODAY presents nature-loving photographers and their take on the changing faces of the Harz today.
