Carl. I regierte das Herzogtum Braunschweig bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 1780 nach den Prinzipien der Aufklärung. Er wollte Wirtschaft und Kultur seines Landes weiterentwickeln. Dazu gehörte eine gute Bildung seiner Bevölkerung. In Weitsch erkannte er schnell ein Talent, das er fördern wollte.

Charles I ruled the Duchy of Brunswick according to the principles of the Enlightenment until his death in 1780. By giving many of his subjects access to education, he sought to advance the economy and culture of his principality. He was quick to recognize Weitsch as a talent that he wished to promote.
